God forms stones. People stack stones. Is there more to it?
I believe there is. Certainly, I believe God created the earth with raw materials for us to enjoy, play and create.
Metals and gemstones to make jewelry.
Fibers and fleeces to spin into yarns or weave into materials.
Wood and stone to construct buildings.
Fire to cook meals and keep warm.
Water to swim and sail.
There is no end to the ways we engage with creation. Even in building a simple cairn, we form something new out of the provision from our Creator.
But I think God desires more than just watching us play with His gifts. I think Jesus wants to enter into our life in very real ways, by collaborating with us in our everyday tasks, and joining us in our recreation.
It’s one thing to receive the gifts Father God supplies, it’s another to be guided in the use of those gifts by the Holy Spirit. Following Jesus applies to all aspects of life, not just the “spiritual” ones. Creating beauty encompasses both the temporal and the eternal.
I am sure Jesus is interested in our efforts involving beauty, even if we are simply stacking stones.
