There is a sense I get from some Christian teachings, and from some Christian people, even if they don’t state it outright, that beauty is frivolous or empty or unimportant. Even, possibly, sinful. A nice, but unessential add-on at best, vanity at worst.
Where does this idea come from?
Certainly not from God.
God created a beautiful world, not just a functional one. God gave very detailed instructions for building Him a beautiful temple. God describes heaven as an incredibly ornate place—gold streets, city walls built from jewels, city gates carved from pearls (really large pearls!) God promises beauty for us as well, to replace the ashes in our lives.
True beauty is not frivolous or empty or unimportant.
True beauty is the dwelling place of God.
True beauty is the desire of every person.
True beauty is significant, essential and vital.
