Which is more difficult—to find and affirm the way others around you reflect the heart of God, or to discover how you yourself reflect the heart of God?
Is our ability to do one related to the other?
So often we try to achieve a certain measure of acceptance and attractiveness by focusing on our outward appearance. It’s not only women who do this, men do too. We put on the costume, pick out the accessories, and perfect the hairstyle of the person we want to be. We make conscious choices to convey a certain persona by our actions or preferences.
Face, hair, clothing, accessories, actions, accoutrements…while any of these might be conduits for beauty to flow through, none can actually conjure it up. Our ability to offer something of God’s goodness to others does not come from anything on the outside of us. It comes, as all true beauty does, from within.
From the heart.
