God created a good, beautiful world. He planted a wonderful garden, and walked by our side within it. The serpent invited (and still invites) us to distrust God and make our own way. The result of listening to our enemy?—the beauty God lavished around us, on us and in us is now subjected to disease, destruction and death. In many forms.
But not completely.
There is still a world full of delight and wonder and awe, even amidst all the hardship and sorrow we encounter. There is still kindness and generosity and sacrifice, despite all the selfishness and anger and greed.
God’s beauty is unaffected by the enemy’s work, unaffected by our participation in sin, unaffected by the state of the world we live in. God, the Source of all true beauty continues to lavish beauty upon us, around us and, as we turn our hearts toward Jesus and follow the voice of the Holy Spirit, in us.
These glimpses of beauty, here and now, call our hearts to hope for what is yet to come.
Beauty will be.
God is restoring us—bringing beauty from ashes, causing us to be transformed to the image of His Son, ultimately giving us new bodies made like Jesus’ glorious body. In the end, God will also restore the earth itself and the heavens above so that the groans of creation will finally cease and full beauty will again be ours.
Beauty is both our design and our destination.
What beauty brings hope to you?
