Beauty feeds the soul like nothing else. Yet how much thought do we give to beauty in our daily lives? The aim of Rooted in Beauty is to draw our attention back to it, by examining beauty’s many facets.
For example, David said (in Psalm 27:4) his great desire was to gaze on the beauty of the Lord…what does that mean? What, exactly, IS the beauty of the Lord? What does that beauty do for us? How should we respond to it?
Beauty doesn’t start and stop with God—it extends to all of His creation and to us, as His image-bearers. It is as vital to our being as it is to God’s. In addition, there is a depth and complexity to beauty we too often miss.
What is the relationship between the physical and the spiritual when it comes to beauty? Where do we see God’s beauty in our lives and in our world today? How do we recognize it? How do we reflect it?
Why is beauty important to our hearts? What is lost when we ignore, destroy or corrupt beauty? What can beauty teach us about God’s heart toward us?
Beauty is a conduit between our hearts and God’s. Rooted in Beauty is designed to remind us of this truth and to explore it more fully.
My plan is to spend a year journeying throughout the topic of beauty, examining and pondering some of its many facets, from various angles. Each week will follow the rhythm below:
Monday—a quote to ponder
Tuesday—a post with questions for discussion
Wednesday—a “thing of beauty” to enjoy
Thursday—a pause, or a guest blogger, or a link
Friday—a challenge or invitation to dig deeper into beauty
I invite you to explore and discuss the facets of beauty with me. Look for beauty in your world, create beauty in your days, call out beauty in others, enjoy the gifts of beauty you receive, and share your thoughts, ideas and experiences of beauty here in the comments.
Above all, allow beauty to enthrall your heart and woo you to the heart of God.
Who will journey with me?
