What happens when physical beauty is missing from our surroundings? Does it have any effect on us? I would say it has a profound effect, whether we realize it or not. I am sure people become accustomed to living without aesthetic beauty, so much so they do not even recognize they are lacking anything. Yet this does not mean physical beauty is unimportant to the human soul.
Take for example, those who are colorblind. They live all their lives in a muted world, devoid of the hues you and I take for granted. When given the opportunity to truly see all the colors around them, they are overwhelmed and amazed.
Here is a professional video from Valspar, talking a little bit about colorblindness and the glasses they helped develop with EnChroma to allow colorblind people to see color. It’s a good starter video, and shows several people’s reactions to wearing the glasses.
This is a video filmed by a guy’s wife, as he opens the glasses and puts them on for the first time with his kids around him. He is instantly moved by the beauty he sees.
This is a video filmed by a guy's friend. He decided to put the glasses on for the first time to watch the sunset. It’s immediately apparent he had no idea what he was missing in life. [He swears frequently.]
Physical beauty is essential to the human soul.
Wednesdays here at Rooted in Beauty are dedicated to Things of Beauty. If you have noticed or created something beautiful, describe it in a comment or leave a link to your online site to share it with the rest of us.
