Think about the last time you walked into a pleasant space, knowing it was prepared just for you. How did your heart respond?
When we create a space to welcome someone, to bless someone, to offer rest and refreshment and recreation to someone, we are reflecting the heart of God who welcomed us to this world with beauty.
Hospitality is a type of beauty offered from a heart filled with joy and love.
Beauty is a conduit between our heart and God’s.
The beauty of Eden was an offering from God’s heart to Adam, saying, “Here, come explore and enjoy. I’ve planted a beautiful place for you to work and live and grow and feast and find romance!”
The Bible tells us when God designed Eden, He grew every tree that was pleasing to the eye and good for food. (Genesis 2:9) Eden was not just a practical garden for producing food, it was a lovely place. In fact, the appearance of the trees is mentioned first.
We bear the image of God in our desire to create beautiful places for others.
How do you like to welcome people to your home? Do you know someone who excels at designing spaces that are pleasing to the eye? Where have you felt welcomed by beauty?
