God made this world extravagantly beautiful. Many sources of beauty in nature are so abundant, they are practically unending. I’ll share 3 of my favorites with you today:
Leaves on trees are beautiful, both when they are green and when they change colors and die in autumn.
Have you ever tried to calculate how many leaves are in the world? Consider trees we notice and admire, how many of their leaves are closely examined for their symmetry, their shape, their color? Beyond the trees we observe from time to time, remember the thousands, even millions, of trees which grow and live for decades without ever being seen by any human being? How many leaves do they produce each year?
Rocks are beautiful and abundant.
All shapes and sizes, from minuscule pebbles to monstrous boulders to entire mountains, rocks are an often overlooked source of beauty. They can be found in every color combination, and range from matte finish to satin toglittering metallic,. How often do we study them closely? How many rocks and pebbles and boulders do you suppose exist in the world? What vast amounts of beauty go unnoticed in our everyday wanderings?
Wave after wave brings in new seashells.
On beach vacations, our family likes to hunt for seashells. One year we went out every morning and came back with pails filled with shell after shell. We covered the outdoor table with them. We filled containers. We stacked them high. And we hadn’t even begun to make a dent in the piles of shells on the beach. Every morning there were more. Every day we found more beauty than we could carry. This was one week, at one tiny section, of one beach. How many shells are scattered across all the beaches around the entire world? Not to mention those which never quite make it to the shoreline, but lay beneath the waters.
Leaves, rocks and seashells are just a few sources of beauty. Constantly renewed and always delightful to my eyes, they remind me of Father God’s extravagant heart of love. His love for beauty and His love for us, that He would provide such prolific sources of beauty for us to enjoy.
