Exploring the beauty of the created world these past weeks has highlighted the abundance and extravagance of beauty God has given us. I am grateful for the beauty of creation. God did not have to make this world so astoundingly gorgeous, but He did. I have found incredible beauty in every place I have ever been. And I always want to share it. It’s one of the reasons I love to take photos of the beauty I see.
Gratitude and beauty are linked in a reinforcing cycle. When we are presented with beauty—whether it be physical beauty such as we see in the world around us, or the intangible beauty of love, service and sacrifice—our hearts respond with gratitude. When our hearts are full with gratitude, we naturally desire to create beauty or offer beauty to others.
God created a beautiful world for us. He filled it with delightful and intriguing plants and animals. He devised geographical forms and atmospheric phenomena for us to admire. He placed our planet in a vast universe to amaze and fascinate us.
Like good parents who fill their home with not just the necessities of life, but with books, puzzles, toys and treasures to discover and enjoy, God has made a home for us with abundant and unending beauty. Because He loves us.
If we have eyes to see how extravagant God is with beauty, and how full of love His heart is toward us, we cannot help but respond with gratitude. If we are followers of Jesus, we ought to be creating and offering beauty, in many forms, with extravagant generosity, to the world around us. Just like our Father does.
The next time you notice the beauty of creation, consciously consider how to share beauty with someone else. Bonus points if you find a way to offer beauty to a stranger!
